What type of pump we use as a ballast / fire pump and why?

Centrifugal pumps are used as ballast/fire pumps. The main reasons are:
1. centrifugal pumps are usually specified for higher flows and for pumping lower viscosity liquids
2. less frictional losses
3. minimum wear
